Eline Anna Gaudé (b. 1996, Saint-Cyr-L’Ecole) is a French-Finnish visual artist based in Espoo, Finland. She holds a MA in Visual Cultures, Curating, and Contemporary Art from Aalto University (FI) and a BA in Fine Arts from Novia University of Applied Sciences (FI), including an exchange program at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design (DE). Her work, exploring human-nature relationships through fine arts, textile handicrafts, and transdisciplinary collaborations, has been featured in Finland and abroad. Co-founder of the interdisciplinary art collective Sympoietic Society, she has been actively involved in the development and production of the pan-European project ICE * In Case of Emergency, a year-long artistic project spanning Finland, Italy and Austria acknowledging the melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, and the disappearance of winters around the globe as an urgent call to think beyond human centered perspectives. In 2022, she co-founded the non-profit creative association Ymmärrys ry, promoting cognitive justice and societal resilience through art and design practices. In collaboration with the Helsinki-based community center Hannatalo, Ymmärrys facilitated the workshops series Everyman’s Knowledge, dedicated to elevating the muistitieto (in Finnish, i.e. “memory knowledge”) and collected wisdom of our elders through storytelling and handicrafts. In conjunction with the <<Maan>> puolustusvoimat | <<EARTH>> FORCES art and activism initiative, Eline was invited to present her practice and lead a stitching workshop focusing on endangered bryophyte species at MAA-Tila project space. Her visual essay Yearning for Kinship: An Artistic Exploration of Moss and Embroidery, published in the peer-reviewed journal Research in Arts and Education, explored the process of artistic creation and connection with moss through the art of embroidery. In 2023 she was awarded Second Place in the Textile Art Student category of the prestigious international Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery for her entry M/OS(S)MOSIS (The Lost Touch). In the course of June 2024, she presented her artistic research at the 16th Nordic Environmental Social Science Conference in Turku (FI), and curated her solo show Ancient Green: An Apprenticeship with Moss at Galleri Spectra, Kristinestad (FI).
