Filling in the Blank(et) - Stitching Stories | Collective quilting and stitching circle | 2021

This project was initiated in collaboration with Elina Priha, Avrenon Heikki, Anna Kozonina, Stella Martino and Martta Nieminen. It was presented at Villa Lill Kallvik, Vuosaari.

This collaborative project delved into the myriad ways through which individuals, who are initially unfamiliar with a place, establish connections with a location, especially during times of a global pandemic when in-person interactions are greatly limited. This exploratory process has been guided and informed by the use of affect as a method for acquiring fresh insights. Our primary interest lay in utilizing non-scientific approaches to scrutinize the interplay between ourselves and our environment. Taking our ideas into action, we initiated a weekly quilting workshop, which served as a tangible manifestation of the newly acquired knowledge, reclaiming quilting as a feminist practice and validating the transmission of wisdom through the medium of crafts.
